Donor conception law is an emerging and complex area of law, in which very few lawyers in the UK have specialist expertise. This blog has been created by the pioneer of fertility law in the UK, solicitor Natalie Gamble who has years of experience in this area of law and runs the UK’s only specialist fertility law firm (Natalie Gamble Associates).
Sperm donor law applies to lesbian couples, single women and heterosexual couples conceiving with donor sperm, as well as to sperm donors (including known donors and co-parents) and donor conceived people. For those conceiving with a donor, donor conception law says who has legal and financial responsibility for their child, as well as the rights to information the child will have in later life. The law is complex, and the rules are different according to the personal circumstances of those involved, and whether conception takes place at home, at a fertility clinic in the UK or at a fertility clinic abroad.
The Natalie Gamble Associates website contains a wealth of free information on fertility law for patients, parents and professionals including information about:
Donor conception and co-parenting law – including the law itself, court forms, articles, news coverage and useful links
